Many felt that 2006 would be a great year for Miami. During the 2005 off season they acquired Daunte Culpepper to fill the void at quarterback.
Sadly, he was not ready to return from the ACL/MCL/PCL tear he got to his knee back in 2004. Culpepper managed to play in just 4 games before head coach Nick Saben benched him. Backup quarterback Joey Harrington finished off the season leading the Dolphins to a 6-10 record. Harrington was promptly released this off season leaving Culpepper as the only veteran QB in Miami. Their new quarterback, John Beck has very big shoes to fill if Daunte Culpepper does not show up healthy during the season.
In the four games Culpepper started last year, he threw for nearly 1,000 yards. Not too bad for a guy with a bad knee. If he can come out and play as well (or better) this season, the Dolphins will be a team to watch. With a quality quarterback, solid receiving core, and a talented running back the Dolphins have all the right tools to put up some great numbers.
It should be interesting to see how well Miami plays this season with first year head coach Cam Cameron. He could have a great first season like Sean Payton did with New Orleans last year. On the flip side, he could have a year like Gary Kubiak in Houston.
Of course the factoring in of their new Wide Receiver in Ted Ginn Jr. could help their offense where there used to be just Ronnie Brown and Patrick Cobbs.
