Wrestlemania Tickets
The party is over, but the work has just begun.
Thousands of fans celebrated the
WWE WrestleMania 28 pre-sale ticket kickoff party on Friday, Nov. 4 at Bayfront Park in Downtown Miami. They enjoyed meeting WWE talent and purchasing WrestleMania 28 tickets before the on-sale date Saturday morning.
Miami-Dade County Commissioner and Miami-Dade Sports Commission Chairman Jose Pepe Diaz — an integral part of luring WWE WrestleMania to Miami — proudly walked around Bayfront Park, proud of his city, proud of the turnout.
“There were people everywhere,” Diaz said. “I know WWE fans, the WWE Universe, are incredible fans. I’ve met so many of them the past few years, and they’re second to none, and that’s why you see so many people here. Imagine when it comes time for WrestleMania.”
A few fans arrived at noon, getting an early jump in lines for the 7 p.m. bell time. Others 2:30, 3:30 p.m. It was worth the wait.
WWE divas and legends were carted to the area, flanked by security and WWE staff. Hats off to WWE superstar Rey Mysterio, who made the trek from San Diego to Miami with a leg injury.
Sporting crutches, Mysterio signed 200 autographs and posed for many photos. A limited number of autographs for Mysterio because of the leg (posted in advance) gave WWE Universe followers another reason to catch the worm.
The Miami-Dade Sports Commission, the WWE WrestleMania LOC and WWE personnel did a good job coordinating and supervising the special occasion. Food, music and the mascots (Florida Marlins’ Billy the Marlin, FedEx Orange Bowl’s Obie and Miami Dolphins’ TD, Tye Dye Guy) made a nice undercard to set-up the co-main event: meeting the WWE superstar, divas and legends and buying WrestleMania 28 tickets.
WWE Senior Vice President of Special Events John Saboor said: “The on-sale celebration was an exciting and powerful kickoff for the road to WrestleMania 28 in Miami-Dade County.
“What we saw was an exceptional performance by Team Miami and the local organizing committee, those public and private partners who are going to help us stage our largest annual celebration. We are proud of what they achieved in the execution of the on-sale celebration. They were inclusive on so many different levels and created an event that was appealing to fans of all ages — a generational experience and a family-based experience — that really sets a positive tone for everything geared toward WrestleMania 28 in Miami.”
Joining Mysterio were WWE Hall of Famers Jimmy Hart and Sgt. Slaughter and WWE divas Kelly Kelly, Rosa Mendes and the Bella Twins. All appeared as advertised, and they signed and posed for countless photos, catering to just about every fan. WWE talent split into three tents and later two, after Mysterio finished.
On the opposite side of the park, fans stood in line for WWE WrestleMania tickets. Everywhere WWE. The park transformed into a WWE showpiece.
Saboor said: “It tells us that there’s a world of possibilities opening up to us with new events, as part of WrestleMania Week, which would be endemic to Miami, showing off Miami’s heritage, its landscape, its culture, its personality. After this event, I have complete faith in the LOC’s ability to deliver on behalf of this community.”
Excited fans — adorned with championship belts, John Cena garb, Mysterio masks and posters, WWE figurines and DX T-shirts — anxiously waited for WWE’s sports entertainers. One older gent even toasting Long Island Iced Z style.
Overlooking the bay, Bayfront Park served as the perfect setting for the party, and the weather fully cooperated, helping re-confirm Miami’s aura and beauty. The WWE divas also helped there, too.
Fans gobbled plenty of tickets, whether online pre-sale or in-person at the event. No matter where you looked, you saw happy faces.
“Like anything we try to do as elected officials, we try to reach for the stars. Well, we grabbed this star, and that’s great for all of us here locally,” Diaz said. “This is an event that happens in very few places, and it’s a lot of jumping hurdles to make sure we get an event like this.
“To have [WrestleMania] here, after two years of so much work that we put into this, it’s a dream come true, and I think [WWE] will realize that Miami-Dade County is the place they want to be time and time again.”
It’s November, and Miami-Dade already hit a home run with the ticket kickoff party. April will be here soon enough. So get ready for the grand slam.
• WWE WrestleMania 28, the Super Bowl of sports entertainment, is April 1 at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens. It will highlight WrestleMania Week in Miami.
